Professor Toikka is widely respected for his diverse design work, which includes set and costume design for the Finnish National Opera and glass tableware for iittala, he is best known known internationally for Birds by Toikka, a collection representing individual birds and a variety of species designed for iittala over a 30-year period.

His special interest is in birds and the glass that captures both their fluid movement and glorious colors. Although most of the collection represents species native to the Nordic countries. Oiva Toikka’s work can be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Corning Museum of Glass in New York, The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art in Japan and in many museums in the Scandinavian countries.
