Erik Bagger (Top Left) Erik Bagger (b. 1949) is originally a goldsmith by trade. After finishing his apprenticeship, he was employed by Georg Jensen, where he worked until he became self-employed. As a goldsmith, Erik Bagger acquired a keen sense of detail, which is still characteristic in his designs today. A visit to USA was the reason Erik Bagger decided to become a freelance designer in 1987. However, it was also because that he could see the endless opportunites presented by the combination of steel, plastic and rubber. Lin Utzon (Centre Right) Lin Utzon was educated as an art craftsman and textile designer. She has completed many works, which span widely from a series of porcelain for Royal Copenhagen to set designs and costumes for The Danish Royal Ballet. She has also completed architectural decorations for Jørn Utzon’s church in Bagsværd (Copenhagen), and for the head offices for Volvo in Göteborg, IBM in Dallas and the San José Convention. Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen (Top Right) Rud Thygesen and Johnny Sørensen were both educated at The School for Arts & Craftsmanship in Denmark. Together they have created a long list of furniture lines, mainly in laminated wood. Their salt and pepper rasps have found their place on dining room tables around the world and in The Museum of Modern Art in New York. Kim Almsig (Centre Left) Kim Almsig is a trained carpenter, but has worked as a self-taught designer since 1994. His main interest is individual furniture design with plywood being his specialty. Niels Kjeldsen (Centre) After training first as a fitter and later graduating as a product designer from Danmarks Designskole, Niels Kjeldsen was hired as a professional designer by one of Denmarks leading design agencies. During his time with the agency Niels Kjeldsen won the Danish Design Prize for the interior design of the NaturBornholm discovery centre in Aakirkeby. Anders Noergaard (Bottom Left) Anders Nørgaard, a young self-taught designer, is now working for Rosendahl. He has previously worked for Jacob Jensen, the famous Bang & Olufsen designer. Maria Berntsen (Bottom Centre) Since 1992, Maria Berntsen has had her own design office and has designed furniture, lamps, applied art products, jewelries and kitchen utensils for Danish as well as foreign companies. Apart from this, Maria Berntsen has been teaching at the Danish School of Designs. Helle Damkjaer (Bottom Right) ”Environmentally aware harmony” is what Helle Damkjær calls her design philosophy, in which simple and almost minimalistic functionality commences with beautiful shapes, which bring greater quality into our surroundings. With an exceptional sense for shapes and colours, and their effect on peoples well-being, Damkjær achieves the maximum effect with the most modest resources. This fundamental design philosophy is fully displayed in Helle Damkjær’s new ash trays, which are produced for Rosendahl. Today Hlle Damkjær resides in Paris, where she works in her own design studio. Return to the top of the page. |
